Size & Fit
Size & Fit
Sizing is the single thing that decides whether you keep a lehenga or ship
it back across the world. It is worth five minutes.
Start here
How to measure yourself — bust, waist, hip and
waist-to-floor, what to do when you fall between sizes, and the four
mistakes that cause most returns.
Semi-stitched vs ready to wear — which one you
want, what each needs from you, and roughly what a tailor costs in the US.
How our size charts work
Indian garment sizing is a published convention: **the India size number is
the bust measurement in inches.** India 38 is a 38 inch bust. Waist normally
runs about six inches below that and hip about three above, and US sizes sit
thirty below the India number.
Every product page that has sizes shows a table in inches with both the US
and the India size, and the page states that the figures follow that
convention. They are body measurements, not garment measurements.
Free size
Some pieces are sold free size, with a drawstring or elastic waist made to
cover a range rather than one size. Those pages carry no table. They do give
the skirt length, which is the measurement that actually matters for
whether a lehenga sits right on you — compare it with your waist-to-floor.
Seam allowance on semi-stitched pieces
A semi-stitched lehenga is left open at the seams so the waist can be set to
you, and how much it can be let out depends on the piece.
**We are still confirming the allowance for each piece with our supplier,
and until we have it we will not print a number.** If you are between two
sizes on a semi-stitched piece, email
cedarstonestore@gmail.com with your measurements before you
order and we will check that specific garment for you.
Still not sure
Send us your bust, waist, hip and height, and the piece you are looking at.
We will tell you which size to take, and we will tell you if we think none
of them will fit. A sale we talk you out of costs us far less than a return
from the United States.
